Week 6 - Presentation

This week we had to prepare for a presentation that showed off are work within our group so far. Our group got together and created a google slides presentation and split up work on the slides equally. we made a 20 slide presentation that would last for 7 minutes as we were using the pechakucha method. I am extremely happy with the end result of our presentation as it is clear and concise with all slides having a consistent theme. Here is the presentation

Desolado Mood Boards

As a group we got together to discuss what inspires the world of Desolado Here are some mood boards we came up with. This mood board is the inspiration for the cities of Desolado, as you can see the cool colours complement the desert aspect of the world This mood board shows the inspiration for the desert side of Desolado and also how the inhabitants would traverse the world.

Colour Work

This is some of my colour practice using simple 3D shapes. I used photoshops with many different brushes. I used complementary colours along with analogous colours and lighting in order to create tone and mood.

Week 5 - Colour

In week five we had to apply colour to our tonal landscape thumbnails. For Desolado, I wanted to make the colour of the world stand out as in most films/games set in the desert the colours are very muted and muddy. Due to Desolado being an alien world, I could experiment with many different colour combinations to evoke the atmosphere of the world. I ended up using saturated complimentary colours for the daytime setting as I believes it evokes the feeling of the extreme heat of the planet, for nighttime, I used cool analogous colours which show how cold the world becomes in the night and it also helps the neon of the cities stand out. Here are some examples of my colour studies I feel the complimentary colours of the daytime scenes help the wasteland look visually interesting although, the shadows within the image are very weak which makes the image look flat. Here are some games/films that inspired these studies. METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN DIS...

Build a World - Week 4 - DESOLADO

In order to flesh out the world more, we decided on coming up with a name. We wanted to use a name that seemed foreign yet familiar in other ways. We settled on the Spanish DESOLADO, which means desolate, this name fit our vision extremely well. For week 4, we had to apply what we learned about tone to our world building work. Using tone is great as it allows depth to come through in the concepts. Here are some tonal thumbnails. These tonal thumbnails allowed me to show how light reacted with the world, and by showing shadows of big objects I could give a greater sense of scale. These are my outcomes from my tonal thumbnails, I feel that I was able to capture the loneliness that the wasteland brings with it and in the second image especially the sense of scale of the desert and ruins. In the first study I wanted to show a perfect city in the distance, this is a reference to mirages in the desert and how they depict an oasis. In the second image it depicts a city de...

Build A World- Building a Narrative

When I was drawing my composition thumbnails, I realised that I didn't have much context of the story of our world, our group's new members felt this way too. So I decided to create a small presentation discussing a potential narrative that our world could have. Here it is below.   This is an embedded Microsoft Office presentation, powered by Office Online . Once I showed all of our members this presentation they agreed with me and accepted my ideas as the basis of this world's story. We could now begin to expand this story with more interesting ideas.

Build a World Week 3

In week 3 changes to our group were made. Donal and Jack had been removed and replaced with Bethany Ferguson Fox and Eva Robinson. I was off sick the day of this change but I was caught up by our Slack group chat. I made sure to check Blackboard Learn to catch up on the lesson content of that week, Composition. We had to construct scene thumbnails using cinematic methods such as the rule of thirds and symmetry. I created some of these thumbnails using pencil and paper and others with digital means. Here is some of my work. In this week, I had begun to use Photoshop CC 2018 with my digital work and I believe that I have improved vastly with my digital work.

Build A World Week 2

In week 2 we studied Form and Perspective, this involved using basic shapes to create complex 3D objects. Learning about this really helped me visualise 3D objects more and I have begun to use the methods I was taught more frequently. We used these new methods to create hybrid creatures that could be used potentially for our world. Here are some of my ideas.
